Review: Lonestar Homecoming - Colleen Coble

For Most, it's the safest place on earth.  For Gracie, it's the last place she wants to be...and the one place she must return.

With nothing but five dollars and the wedding dress she's wearing, Gracie Lister flees with her daughter by train to West Texas, to the town she ran away from so long ago.  There they find refuge in the home of Michael Wayne - devoted single father, seasoned soldier - who gives Gracie a job caring for his two children and the hiding place she needs from her former fiance.

Michael and Gracie aren't looking for love, but it finds them right away.  And then trouble comes to call in the form of Gracie's ex-fiance who is now on the FBI's most-wanted list.  Together, Michael and Gracie must find the strength they need to protect their newly forged family.

Review:
When the FBI visit Gracie just before her wedding and she finds herself in the middle of a shoot out she quickly flees with her young daughter Hope.  Still wearing her wedding dress and with only $5 and a train ticket to Texas she finds herself in a desperate situation.  When Michael finds Gracie he wants to help her and ends up offering her a job looking after his 2 children.  Feelings between Gracie & Michael quickly escalate but with Gracie's ex-fiance determined to find her and Michael's life at risk from the drug cartels he is trying to prevent crossing the borders life isn't going to be easy for the couple.

Lonestar Homecoming is actually book 3 in the Lonestar series by Colleen Coble but although I've not read any of the previous books I didn't find this confusing and Lonestar Homecoming can easily be read as a stand alone novel.  This is the first Christian romance that I've read and so I wasn't too sure what to expect from that.  Personally as an atheist I didn't find the Christian theme took over the story of the book - yes there were some references to religion in there but overall it was slotted quite smoothly into the story and didn't overwhelm me.

I was quite surprised at how quickly the romance developed between Gracie and Michael but I liked both of the characters and thought they made a nice couple.  I found there was more mystery and action to the story than I was expecting but I really enjoyed that part of the book and really wasn't sure how Gracie would get out of the situation she'd found herself in.

Overall it was quite a sweet story and a quick easy read, I wouldn't mind reading the previous books in the series but I didn't quite love it enough to make them must reads for me.  I'd class this as a pleasant romance and would recommend it if you're looking for something light to read.

  1. I haven't read this one yet but I did read the other two books and they are very similar (single mom fleeing some kind of danger with her daughter). Colleen Coble is known for writing suspense and I usually enjoy her books although this is not my favorite series of hers. Good review.

  2. Hi Christina, it does sound like the other books in the series are very similar. I might have to check out some of her other books if you recommend them though :o) Which series would you recommend I start with?
