Review: Kissing Sin - Keri Arthur

From Melbourne's gleaming skyscrapers to its edgy nightclubs, Riley Jenson's world is fraught with danger and desire.  A drop-dead-gorgeous werewolf - with a touch of vampire coursing through her veins - Riley works for an organisation created to police the supernatural races.  But when she wakes up naked and bruised in a deserted alley, she knows only that she must run for her life.

Within moments Riley collides with steely, seductive, Kade, who is fighting a life-and-death battle of his own.  With old lovers and enemies gathering around her, Riley knows she is being pursued by a new kind of criminal.  Because in Riley's blood is a secret that could create the ultimate warrior - if only she can survive her own dangerous desires...

Review:
When Riley wakes up to find herself naked and covered in someones blood in the middle of a deserted alleyway she knows she is in serious trouble.  She has no memory of the previous week and absolutely no idea where she is or what has happened to her.  Soon finding herself under attack she has to flee for her life and comes across Kade who is being held prisoner in the compound and they have to work together to make their escape.  But who is behind their imprisonment and what did they want with Riley?

I really loved Full Moon Rising and was looking forward to reading Kissing Sin, Keri Arthur has done it again with another fab urban fantasy story.  I still love Riley, she may work her way through quite a lot of sexual partners but I like the fact that she is completely open about what she is and is prepared to stand up for what she believes in.  I loved Quinn in the first book but didn't think much of his attitude in Kissing Sin - he pushed Riley away and then suddenly when he changes his mind and decides he wants her again he expects her to drop everything and jump straight into an exclusive relationship with him.  Riley has never tried to hide her attitude to sex and multiple partners and I was annoyed that Quinn didn't seem interested in listening to her point of view or the fact that he isn't able to give her everything she needs.  I'm hopeful that his attitude will change again throughout the series and he will start to redeem himself though.

With Quinn's behaviour as it was I was much more taken by the new love interests that we come across in this book.  First we have the gorgeous shifter Kade who turns into a stallion (why oh why are there not more horse-shifters in urban fantasy?  Am I just not reading the right books?), can anyone say "hung like a horse"?  Oh boy did I like Kade!  We also have mysterious alpha Kellen who we were briefly introduced to in Full Moon Rising.  At this stage I'm not sure if he can be trusted or not but I have a feeling we're going to be seeing a lot more of him in future books and I'm interested to see how things develop between him & Riley.

I loved the action in Kissing Sin, there are so many plot twists and it is impossible to decide who can be trusted and who is secretly plotting against Riley and the Directorate.  Riley's boss is still determined to get Riley working as a guardian and she is still reluctant to take on the role but she is unwilling to walk away from the investigation.  She is forced to turn to old lover Misha as he seems to be the only one who can give them any clue into what is going on at the mysterious cloning labs and I thought some of the scenes with him were great.  I started off hating him but in the end I really felt for him.

Overall I'm still really enjoying this series and looking forward to reading more.  It's a great urban fantasy series but it does contain quite a lot of sex with multiple partners - if this is something you're not going to enjoy then you might want to give it a miss.  If you're open minded enough not to let this bother you & you like paranormal romance with great hot scenes and a great twisting plot then I'm sure you'll enjoy this & I would definitely recommend it.
